brusselsAs if we need another excuse to visit the land of beer, mussels and chocolate, Belgium’s historic yet cosmopolitan capital is hosting the international Freedom Festival of World Cinema from Oct. 31 to Nov. 10. The annual event features screenings, concerts and debates at the cultural center, Le Botanique, focusing on individual liberty.

After the events, sip Belgian beer in the impressive Grand Place or sample brews at some of Brussels’ more than 80 bars, including the famous A La Mort Subite (Sudden Death) and enjoy a Chimay or a Duvel.

Brussels is known for fantastic dining, and restaurants Restaurant T’ Kelderke and Belgo Belge should go to the top of the list. The number of bistros is staggering, so try this restaurant finder.

Counting calories? Not allowed! Dreamy gourmet chocolates abound, and local favorites are Neuhaus and Pierre Marcolini.Stay in luxury at the Hotel Amigo or the mid-priced, centrally located Hotel Arlequin. Heck, why not save your beer money and crash the George V?

Finally, you must taste true Belgian waffles!
